What do you enjoy about being a board member?
Whenever I show up for a board meeting, I inevitably end up walking in or out with a library patron. I love that I get to see first hand the impact of our work – the faces, young and old, that benefit from library services and resources. LPL serves so many people in so many ways and it’s gratifying to know that in some small way my efforts help instill a love of reading, lead to a job, satisfy curiosity, & provide enjoyment.
Why are you passionate about the library?
I LOVE archives. Libraries have evolved to include digital services and resources, but it’s the tangible stuff that makes my heart happy. Knowing that there are places that store records, unique items, relics of how our communities change over time. From national archives in D.C., to the local library in the smallest towns, I love knowing there are safe spaces that keep our past alive for those in the future. That aside, I love the accessibility of the library – that it puts books in hands. Besides, who doesn’t love to be surrounded by books?!
